Assessment

Assessment
The Office of Educational Technology has a whole page just on assessment. It is very informative to teachers and the general public. It talks about how assessment is important and how technology can make it easier to assess where students are at. It talks about how using technology to assess their students, teachers can give their students real time feedback. Some teaching tools already have that. The website IXL gives the teacher a chance to watch as their students are working on the site how they are doing. It helps them identify problem areas and where they might have to reteach. The Office of Educational Technology page also talks about how assessment can only get better as technology continues to develop. It can provide the students with new ways for self-evaluation, peer feedback, and teacher evaluation. The article goes on to say that as technology and assessment improves, it is the responsibility of the schools to take the data from these assessments and use it in a way that will have the greatest impact on the learning of our students.
Assessment in education is very important. Teachers need to assess their students constantly to see where they are and how close they are to where they should be. Assessment doesn’t have to be a long, drawn out test. It can be as simple as a teacher walking around their classroom and observing students as they work. Teachers can learn a lot from observation. However, if teachers use technology to assess their students, they can get a quicker idea of where the students are. As I said above, there are many websites that teachers use that give them real time data of how their students are doing with specific concepts. IXL is just one example. Another one is called Xtra Math. If a student needs to work on their math more, it will tell the teacher that and then the students can do more. This tells the teacher what they may need to reteach to specific kids. Another website is called Raz Kids. It is a site for reading practice. Teachers can see how many stories each student has read and how many of the quiz questions they got right. The teacher can leave them little messages on their dashboard on how they’re doing. These are just a few ways that I might use technology to assess my students and see where they are struggling.
